Pain Management & Prescription Refills

Alternatives to narcotics should be used first if possible.  Samples of these medications include acetaminophen (Tylenol), NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (Motrin), muscle relaxants, gabapentin, and lidocaine patches.

• Narcotics, if needed, are prescribed for short-term pain.

• After about 1 week, narcotic weaning and switching to non-narcotics will occur.

• Please allow up to 2 business days for prescription refills.

• Refills can only be processed when the clinic is open and providers are here. Normally, this is Monday through Thursday. Please call early in the week to determine if the office is closed for any reason.

• Our clinic policy usually requires a hard copy prescription for all narcotics that must be picked up in the office during business hours.

• If you are on a pain contract, please refer to it for your specific instructions.

• If you have chronic pain, contact your PCP for referral to a chronic pain clinic.

• No refills will be given if the follow up appointment was missed

• Lost or stolen prescriptions cannot be replaced under any circumstances.

• Patients will be terminated from the practice for non-compliance, receiving narcotics from another prescriber, using multiple pharmacies, altering or forging of a prescription.

• Altering or forging a prescription is a felony and will be reported.

• Some insurance companies limit a specific number of pills or prescriptions. It is the patient’s responsibility to know and comply with these restrictions. Our office staff is not able to request an increase in this limit.
