Informed Consent For Blood Transfusions

Patients need blood transfusions for a variety of reasons. Blood is essential to deliver oxygen and nutrients to your body and to clear toxins. If your blood counts are too low, or you are actively bleeding, your doctor may recommend a transfusion. You may also need transfusions of only a part of blood, such as plasma, platelets, or clotting factors. Transfusions are very tightly regulated and safe. Like all treatments, they do have a small risk.  For a list of risks and adverse reactions, please click on this link. https://www.cdc.gov/bloodsafety/basics.html

If you have religious or other beliefs that prevent you from receiving blood, please click here https://www.multicare.org/services-and-departments/transfusion-free/ or notify your care team.
